The math behind it
- 1Concentration = peptide (mcg) ÷ bacteriostatic water (mL). A 5 mg vial in 2 mL = 2,500 mcg/mL.
- 2Volume per dose = target dose (mcg) ÷ concentration. 250 mcg ÷ 2,500 mcg/mL = 0.1 mL.
- 3Units = volume × 100 (a U-100 syringe has 100 units per mL). 0.1 mL = 10 units.
Reading the result
- Units is what you draw to on an insulin syringe — the number most people actually use at the bench.
- Too small to measure? Under ~2 units is hard to draw accurately. Add more water so each dose lands on a bigger mark.
- Over your syringe? Use less water to concentrate the solution, or split the dose across two draws.
