Overview

Selank is a synthetic analogue of tuftsin, an immunomodulatory peptide, engineered for stability. Like Semax it originated in Russian pharmacology and is used there clinically — in Selank's case primarily as an anxiolytic for generalised anxiety.

Its appeal is the reported anxiety reduction without the sedation, dependence, or cognitive dulling associated with benzodiazepines. Proposed mechanisms include modulation of GABA and serotonin systems and stabilisation of enkephalins (endogenous opioids), plus effects on BDNF.

As with Semax, the clinical evidence is largely Russian and not replicated to Western standards. Small trials report anxiolytic effect comparable to benzodiazepines with a cleaner side-effect profile, but it is not FDA approved and rigorous Western data is scarce.
